Through the small alleys of the busy wholesale market in Ahmedabad, women carry packages of about 50 to 100 kilos on their heads. Most of them experience physical problems due to the heavy loads. By experimenting with solar powered electrical carts, the trade union SEWA tries to improve their situation.

We interviewed several headloaders and joined them in their work. We captured the hard work the women are doing and the physical problems they face in photos and articles, like a project description and personal stories.
